About this Event

The Birmingham Citizens' Assembly of the Right To Food UK Commission is taking place on Thursday 21st May 2026 at the Aston University Main Building, B4 7ET, from 6:15-7:45pm.

We warmly invite you to attend this event to help shape the work of our national Commission on the Right To Food.

We would especially like to hear from those of you with lived experience of food insecurity or who work in an organisation or role that deals with food insecurity.

Millions go hungry every day - but this is by no means an inevitable situation and must not become normalised. Hunger is a political choice and it needs a political solution.

We were immensely proud to launch the Right to Food UK Commission in Westminster on Monday 17 November 2025. We are currently travelling around the UK to gather evidence that will shape a roadmap for putting the Right to Food into law.

What is the Right To Food UK Commission?

Established by our in partnership with the University of Westminster, the Bakers, Food and Allied Workers Union (BFAWU), and the Food and Work Network, the Commission is shining a light on the unacceptable nature of food insecurity in Britain, map out solutions to endemic food insecurity, and apply pressure on the Government, devolved administrations and politicians and policymakers to end food insecurity in the UK.

Specifically, the Commission will produce a roadmap for the implementation of a Right To Food law, with the aim of supporting a programme of work and actions to end hunger in the UK by 2035, and an interim objective of halving the number of people experiencing food insecurity by 2030.

.

The Commission is hosting evidence sessions across the country throughout 2026, hearing from people experiencing food insecurity, as well as experts, policymakers, academics and health professionals. The Commission has already held community voices and formal evidence sessions in Merseyside, the North East, Wales and Belfast, with London and Glasgow to follow.

Community (Individual) Voices - Share your views:

You can also share your views and experiences online. We especially want to hear from people with lived experience of food insecurity. Please share your views about feeding yourselves and your families and help to shape the work of the Right To Food UK Commission.
