Throughout September 2025 horse riders, walkers and cyclists will be gathering in various locations across the country and riding and walking together to raise awareness of vulnerable road users and how we can all help keep each other safe on the roads. There is a Facebook group linked with the national campaign called "Pass Wide and Slow" where there is a map of all the rides happening across the country. https://www.facebook.com/groups/passwideandslow
Those of you in this group will know this ties in neatly with what we've been trying to do in the Coghurst area lanes - Butchers Lane, Rock Lane, Ivyhouse Lane and Moor Lane and the crossroads.
So I would like to invite you to join us again on Sunday 14th September 2025 (please note this date is provisional at this point) to either walk, ride or drive your horses and ponies, cycle or walk as a group to raise awareness and educate other roads users. This will be our forth year taking part in this national awareness campaign after a successful 2024 event.
We will be travelling a route to be determined around these four lanes and may include a small part of The Ridge for extra awareness raising and you are free to join/leave at any point along the way.
Please note: This will be a mixed group of riders, walkers (possibly dog walkers) and cyclists as we are all vulnerable on these lanes. Please bear this in mind when thinking about how you'd like to attend. For example, if your horse has a real fear of bikes or dogs, it might not be the best option. Also everyone who attends will do so at their own risk and be responsible for their own safety and the safety of any horses or dogs they bring along. I will be asking people to sign a disclaimer and particularly horses riders/owners, please ensure you are properly covered by insurance.
