About this Event
Led by master dancer and choreographer Raúl De La Paz, this interactive session introduces participants to Plena, a beloved Puerto Rican musical and dance tradition rooted in Afro-diasporic culture and storytelling.
During this workshop, participants will explore the rhythmic structure and movement vocabulary of Plena through guided exercises, short combinations, and joyful group dynamics. You’ll learn fundamental steps, body movement, and how dancers interact with the rhythm of the music.
After the workshop, stay for a live Plena jam session in the square!
Musicians and community members are warmly invited to bring panderos, güiros, and other instruments to share music together and continue the celebration.
No prior dance experience is necessary—this workshop is designed to be welcoming, accessible, and fun for all.
This event is made possible through the collaboration and support of Kadencia, Claves Unidos, and Latin Ballet of Virginia.
