Join Nathan Kensinger for a walking tour of Richmond Creek and Brookfield Park!
About this Event

Richmond Creek is the longest creek in New York City, and its route cuts through several of the city’s most unique landscapes. This walk will explore the middle section of its watershed, where it flows past some of New York’s oldest houses, cemeteries, and businesses, and through two very different man-made wetlands.

The shores of Richmond Creek here include a 325-year-old Dutch home, a 300-year-old English church, a 140-year-old German bakery, and two of the largest Jewish cemeteries in Staten Island.

Join artist, photographer, and journalist Nathan Kensinger on a walk through these landscapes, visiting the fish ladders and mill ponds of Historic Richmond Town, and the newly engineered wetlands of Brookfield Park, which were built on top of a toxic waste dump.

Sturdy, closed-toed shoes are recommended for this 2.5 mile walk, which will involve following footpaths over streams and through wooded environments. We will start at Old Mill Road and Richmond Hill Road, and end the walk at Arthur K*ll Road and Miles Avenue.

This event is part of a series of NYC H2O walks led by Nathan Kensinger, exploring how creeks, oysters, industry, and immigration helped to shape Staten Island's historic neighborhoods.

This walking tour is sponsored by Council Member Joseph Borelli.
