The LaGrange Youth Council will host a ribbon cutting for a new Little Free Pantry on Thursday, March 12th at 4:00 p.m. The event will take place at Twin Cedars-Coleman Center, 701 Lincoln Street.LaGrange Youth Council Committee Chairperson Alise Gentile explained why the group chose to focus on food insecurity in our community.
“Our committee decided on erecting a Little Free Pantry to help address those concerns of food insecurity in our community and ensure that everyone feels supported during difficult times,” said Gentile.
“We recognize that every action can make a meaningful difference, especially for those who aren’t always guaranteed consistent access to resources,” said Gentile. “We were fortunate enough to partner with Ms. Veronica Dowell from Twin Cedars and Coach Kenny Moore, my Calculus Teacher from LaGrange High School, to turn our vision into a project that shows our commitment to service and passion for assisting our community.”
To ensure the LYC’s Little Free Pantry remains a lasting resource for the community, the LaGrange Youth Council has partnered with Twin Cedars. Through this partnership, the pantry will be regularly monitored and restocked to ensure long-term sustainability.
Twin Cedars is a community-based organization dedicated to strengthening families and supporting individuals through a variety of programs and services aimed at improving well-being and stability. Their commitment to addressing local needs makes them a natural partner for this student-led initiative.
Ms. Veronica Dowell of Twin Cedars has been integral to leading this project and sustaining its success.
When it was time to build the pantry, the students turned to their trusted LaGrange High School Teacher, Kenny Moore, for guidance. Moore generously volunteered his time and expertise, advising students throughout the construction process and encouraging them at every step.
This Little Free Pantry is located near the circular driveway in the parking lot of the Twin Cedars Coleman Center and will be accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The pantry is available to anyone in need. No registration, appointment, or qualifications are required. Community members are encouraged to take what they need and, when able, leave items to help others. Nonperishable food items, hygiene products, and other basic necessities are welcome donations.
This pantry joins other Little Free Pantries and food assistance efforts throughout LaGrange and Troup County, expanding access and reinforcing the community’s shared commitment to addressing food insecurity.
