About this Event

The Rhode Island State House will once again be open for special weekend hours. Visitors can enjoy these unique experiences:

  • View the Act of Renunciation
  • Attend an RI250-themed State House tour
  • See a pop-up exhibit on RI's role in the American Revolution
  • Explore new Lower Level exhibit, Revolution and Rhode Island: Liberty, Struggle, Legacy
  • Discover your genealogical connection to the American Revolution.
  • Free giveaways and raffles

The Act of Renunciation, one of Rhode Island’s founding documents, officially ended the colony's allegiance to Great Britain. The passage of the Act of Renunciation took place on May 4, 1776 – today considered “Rhode Island Independence Day.”

Rhode Island 250-themed abbreviated guided State House tours will be offered between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. The last guided tour will depart at 12:15 p.m.

A pop-up exhibit featuring information about Rhode Island's role in the American Revolution will be on display. This exhibit was created in collaboration with the Rhode Island State Archives and RI250 Commission.

Visitors will also be able to view Revolution and Rhode Island: Liberty, Struggle, Legacy, a new exhibit installed at in the Lower Level of the Rhode Island State House in commemoration of the Semiquincentennial. The exhibit offers a deeper look at Rhode Island's revolutionary history and the individuals and communities whose experiences shaped the era.

The Rhode Island Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (RISSOR) will be available to assist with genealogical research. Discover your connection to the American Revolution and join them in commemorating our ancestors.

Free giveaways and raffles will be available while supplies last.

Attendance is free and does not require registration, although it is recommended.
