? 11:40pm – Live Performance in Haig Park (Free)
We begin outdoors in Haig Park with a high-energy 20 -minute samba performance. Experience the driving rhythms of Brazilian percussion performed by Raio De Sol’s intergenerational ensemble, featuring members aged 10 to 70+.
This free performance sets the tone for the afternoon — joyful, inclusive and full of rhythm. No booking required.
? 12:30pm – Raio De Sol In Conversation
Salt House Community Centre - Free (Bookings Essential)
Following the performance, join us inside Salt House Community Centre in Haig Park for a live, on-stage conversation with members of Raio De Sol. This special event focuses particularly on the experiences of older participants, exploring themes of creative ageing, wellbeing, resilience and belonging. Hosted by a Raio De Sol member alongside an external facilitator, this relaxed and engaging discussion will offer personal insights into how music has shaped members’ lives — including stories of recovery, community connection and lifelong creativity. Audience capacity is limited. Free tickets required.
? 2:00pm – Samba Workshop
Salt House Community Centre
End the afternoon by stepping into the rhythm yourself. This two part 90-minute interactive workshop introduces participants to Brazilian percussion traditions in an accessible and welcoming format.
The session includes:
- A short introduction to the cultural roots of samba
- A live demonstration by Raio De Sol
- Learning one simple, layered samba piece
- Hands-on experience playing two different percussion instruments
- A short break midway through
The workshop is open to all ages and abilities. No prior musical experience is needed.
Spots are strictly limited to ensure a quality, inclusive experience.
