REX RATTORUM jeb “Žurku ķēniņš” ir performatīva izrāde par līdzatkarību, aprūpi un mēģinājumu sevi radīt no jauna situācijā, kurā rūpes par otru kļūst par ikdienas izvēli – palikt līdzās. Balstoties režisores personīgajā pieredzē, ilgstoši aprūpējot savu māti, izrāde pievēršas aprūpētājas iekšējai pasaulei, kas veidojas līdzās tuva cilvēka ciešanām. Izrāde skatītāju ieved iekapsulētā telpā, kur redzamais un neredzamais, tuvība un attālums pastāv vienlaicīgi. Caur rūpēm, humoru un atsvešinājumu protagoniste rod izdzīvošanas mehānismus, ar kuru palīdzību panest sāpīgo ikdienas rutīnu un vecāka aiziešanas pieredzi.

What are we connected to, and what are we disconnected from? Can we decide for
ourselves where we’re plugged in? Are we being drained, or are we feeding ourselves?
REX RATTORUM, or “The King of Rats,” is a performative piece about interdependence, caregiving, and the attempt to recreate oneself in a situation where caring for another becomes a daily choice – to stay by their side. Based on the director’s personal experience with taking care of her mother over a long period, the performance explores the inner world of the caregiver, which takes shape alongside with the suffering of a loved one. The performance brings the audience into an encapsulated space where the visible and the invisible, closeness and distance, coexist simultaneously. Through care, humor, and detachment, the protagonist finds coping mechanisms that help her endure the painful daily routine and the experience of her parent’s passing.
