The Mercer County Historical Society (MCHS) & Museum cordially invites the public to a candlelit evening honoring the service and sacrifice of Mercer County's Revolutionary War Veterans who fought for our liberty. This is an America 250 event. We will start in the Helen Black Miller Memorial Chapel with words from the MCHS and Daughters of the American Revolution.
Pastor Keith Troyer will speak on the topic "Pastors of the Revolutionary War," and we will also listen to a reading of the Declaration of Independence.
A candlelight parade will step off from the Chapel around 7:50 PM ending at the Old Mercer Graveyard (roughly 0.4 miles) for a small Ceremony/Patriot Vigil to honor and thank not only the Revolutionary War veterans buried there, but all Revolutionary War Veterans who served in the war. We wouldn't have our freedom without them. We guestimate the end time to be around 8:45 PM.
Everyone is welcome to attend. School-aged children and teenagers are highly encouraged to participate! This event is FREE of charge.
The event is purposely planned in the evening, and after sundown, to create a more memorable and solemn atmosphere by candlelight. The MCHS will pass out candles while they last, however, you may also bring your own candles/flashlights.
