We will observe, discuss, and ask Jane Jacobs-inspired questions about urban vitality, public space, and democratic design. No prior knowledge needed - just curiosity!🎨 Stick around to capture the Burr Mall through sketching!
Whether you're an experienced artist or have never sketched before, bring your sketchbook, pencils, pens, or watercolors and join us in documenting this historic public space.
We'll sketch:
• Calder's iconic Stegosaurus sculpture
• The Beaux-Arts Municipal Building
• The Wadsworth Atheneum
• People enjoying the plaza
• Whatever catches your eye!

📍 Meeting Point: George Washington plaque outside the Wadsworth Atheneum, 600 Main Street, Hartford, CT
⏰ Duration: 30-minute walk + 60-90 minutes urban sketching, show and tell at 1 pm. Optional- Mexican lunch at El Pollo Guapo, 26 Front St, Hartford, CT 06103
♿ Accessibility: Fully accessible! The entire route follows level, paved pedestrian walkways with curb cuts. The Burr Mall is a pedestrian plaza with no steps or obstacles.

ABOUT JANE'S WALK:
Jane’s Walk is a global festival of free, volunteer-led walking conversations inspired by community activist Jane Jacobs, held annually on the first Saturday in May. With community partners, Preservation Connecticut coordinated the inaugural Jane’s Walk: Connecticut in 2024. This day of community engagement encourages people to share stories with their neighborhoods, discover aspects of their communities, and connect with their neighbors.
