For more than two years, Israel's military campaign has created a catastrophic humanitarian emergency. Since October 2023, at least 72,063 people have been killed, and more than 171,600 have been injured, the vast majority civilians, including tens of thousands of women and children. The true toll is widely considered to be substantially higher due to those killed under rubble, from starvation, or without access to medical care. Many more deaths continue to be recorded as bodies are recovered and violence persists.
Famine-level conditions are spreading, with large numbers of children suffering from acute malnutrition and urgently needing food, clean water, and medical care. Access to essential supplies is being severely restricted. Gaza's health system has been systematically devastated: at least 94% of hospitals and healthcare facilities have been damaged or destroyed, and 735 attacks on healthcare have been documented since October 2023.
Despite global protests demanding a ceasefire, Western governments, including the UK, continue to provide weapons and political support to Israel, enabling this devastation to continue.
Humanitarian aid remains blocked or constrained, but donations to trusted medical and relief organisations are a vital lifeline. In Gaza, where people are being denied their basic rights and means to survive, every act of solidarity matters.
