About this Event
Green Place Studio is proud to present 'Call Mum,' a compelling exhibition of new works by the globally recognised artist REUDE. Following his recent inclusion in the new London Museum and acclaimed previous shows, 'Art Banquet' and his collaborative exhibition with MuseLAB, 'Call Mum' marks a significant new chapter.
The exhibition's centerpiece is a groundbreaking collaboration with master artisan Taku Mitzuni, featuring unique artworks and bespoke wallets crafted from shibugami. This rare, 600-year-old Japanese paper, traditionally reserved for kimono dyeing, is an endangered material. This partnership seamlessly blends the material's rich, historical gravity with REUDE’s contemporary artistic vision, transforming it into modern objects d'art with the vital mission of raising awareness and contributing to the preservation of this ancient craft for future generations.
REUDE’s multifaceted practice, which spans large-scale canvas, expressive sculpture, and unique objects (including sports cars), is currently shown alongside masters such as Picasso and Warhol in the esteemed Joseph Fine Art Gallery. His work is characterized by a "pure, child-like expression," employing a dynamic, striking visual language that resonates deeply with the immediate, human-centered themes of the 1980s Neo-Expressionist movement. Critics recognize his expressive style as a powerful, contemporary evolution of this tradition, drawing comparisons to seminal figures like Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring.
Further enriching the narrative are various films and collaborative pieces created with filmmaker Jay Green, who has meticulously documented REUDE's creative process over the past year.
Green Place Studio provides an authentic backdrop for this showing, serving not only as the gallery space but also as the very creative crucible where many of these documented works were conceived and realized. ©
