We're excited to announce an upcoming dance workshop in SF with Jo Hoffberg and Kevin Weng happening on May 17-18, 2025! This 2-day event is designed to be a fun and engaging experience, where you'll get to explore and grow!*** TLDR ***
- Dates: Saturday, May 17 & Sunday, May 18
- Location: Monte Cristo Social Club
- Time: 5 hours each day (two 2-hour classes + 1 hour of practice)
- Topics: Charleston and Swingouts
- Price: $100 for one day or $190 for both days
*** SATURDAY ***
Open Level - Please be comfortable with Charleston basics at 170pm as well as swingouts at 150bpm.
Unit 1 - Leading and following Charleston, key transitions, and how to make it feel good. At the end of class, dancers will understand leading and following the difference between full- and half-time walks, and kick steps, all while maintaining various bounces through common figures.
Unit 2 - Using the Swing Out as our container, we'll focus on the technique as well as mechanics of rotation. By the end of class, dancers will be comfortable with rotation both from their hips and their full body, leading and following the difference between step-steps and triple-steps, and how to better use their frame.
*** SUNDAY ***
Targeting int-adv+ students who are comfortable dancing Charleston and Lindy at 180+ bpm; requires video audition.
Please send a 30-60 second video of partnered dancing to music at or above 180 bpm; should include some Charleston as well as swing outs with triple steps.
Unit 3 - Tandem Charleston - building on yesterday's class, Kevin & Jo will review the technique for making your kicks look effortless; share common (and favorite) entrances and exists; and teach some of their favorite ways to play within this container.
Unit 4 - Swing Outs - Every local scene has a default swing out, but they vary widely around the world. Let's get you comfortable to dance around the world! In this class, we'll discuss three ways to both enter and exit our swing outs (9 combinations), frame, and energy management.

You can sign up for only one of the days but are encouraged to sign up for both days.
*** INSTRUCTORS ***
Jo Hoffberg is one of the very best dancers and instructors. She has been competing and winning, showcasing, and teaching for over two decades. She has won virtually every major competition from across the world, has taught in 36 countries, and is excited to be back in the San Francisco Bay Area for this 2-day workshop.
Kevin Weng has been dancing and teaching for 15 years and has long been one of the favorite Leaders in the global scene. His dancing emphasises the conversation with his partner within the music. He makes his partner feel seen and creates a space that "allows me to be creative". He is excited to work with Jo and share some of their favorite things.
