Intention: Rethinking Beliefs
In 2026, we enter the Year of the Fire Horse. People born in Fire Horse years—1906, 1966, and 2026—are traditionally believed to be bold, dynamic, and unconventional.
In some Asian cultures, however, this year carried a darker superstition. Girls born in Fire Horse years were thought to bring misfortune, leading many families to avoid having children during those times. As a result, birth rates dropped—not because of fate, but because of belief.
Today, that belief is changing. The Fire Horse is increasingly seen as a symbol of courage, creativity, and the strength to stand apart. As 2026 approaches, many are choosing to welcome its energy rather than fear it.
This shift reminds us that traditions evolve—and so can we. What beliefs are we willing to rethink?
Marta Martin has been part of AMC since she moved to Asheville from Surfside, FL in 2008. She has been teaching movement for over 30 years, using music and movements from around the world.She loves to motivate people to find freedom in their bodies so they can dance to the spirit.
