About this Event

Join our in-person panel event on Tuesday 4th November in William Mong Hall at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge, to discuss the proposed EU-UK Youth Mobility scheme and the case for the UK to rejoin Erasmus+, the EU programme for education, training, youth and sport.

Our panel will include:

  • Alfred Quantrill - President, Young European Movement UK
  • Maria Kurinna - Ukrainian human rights advocate, Youth for Inclusive Europe
  • Ian James - Professor of Modern French Philosophy and Literature at the University of Cambridge

Doors to William Mong Hall at Sidney Sussex College will open at 5.45 PM, and the panel discussion will start at 6 PM and finish at 7 PM, after which there will be some time for informal discussion.

Each speaker will give a short presentation, after which we'll open it up to questions from the audience.

When the UK left the EU, young people in the UK lost opportunities to live, work and study in the EU and EEA that previous generations took for granted.

Now, as the UK Government announces the intention to rejoin Erasmus+ and to negotiate a Youth Opportunity scheme with the EU, our panel will examine the benefits and limitations of these scheme, and the potential obstacles to agreeing and implementing them.

We'll also discuss where ERASMUS+ and Youth Mobility fit into the wider context of an open Europe, and what our next steps should be to deepen the UK-EU relationship and restore more lost freedoms.

Erasmus+ supports higher education, vocational education and training, youth entrepreneurship, and sports, so its beneficiaries are not only students at universities, but also local councils and non-for-profit organisations that provide training for young people from different backgrounds who face various challenges.

Tickets for this event are free, but we invite attendees to make a donation to help cover the cost of hiring the venue.

This event is organised by Cambridge for Europe, and supported by the Young European Movement UK and Cambridge University Liberal Association.
