A Seeing Whiteness/rewireUS gathering to hold space for an honest conversation on how we sustain ourselves and each other in today’s world.
About this Event

NOTE: This gathering will be held on Zoom. You will receive a zoom link via email following registration.

This May, we will gather to hold space for a deep and timely conversation. We find ourselves standing between two powerful calls to action from two different eras:

  • The 1960s: Ella Baker, a hero of the Civil Rights Movement, famously said, “We who believe in freedom cannot rest.” For her, this was a call to stay vigilant and active in the face of injustice.
  • Today: Dr. Tricia Hersey (known as The Nap Bishop) teaches that “rest is resistance.” She suggests that in a world that often demands we work ourselves to exhaustion, choosing to rest is a way of reclaiming our humanity and our health.

What do these two ideas mean when we put them together? We invite you to join us in an open space where all experiences are heard as we look at the following questions.

The Questions We Will Explore

  • How can rest be a form of resistance?
  • What does rest as resistance look like for each of us?
  • How does this movement relate to the women whose stories we celebrate?
  • Is "rest is resistance" a repudiation of past efforts to bend the arc of history towards justice — or is it an evolution?

Our Time Together

We will consider all of these questions and more at our gatherings. And, of course, we’ll make time for the rituals and practices that define our community. These are the moments that sustain and nourish us, giving us the strength to listen, learn, and lead.
