Sometimes a painting evokes a feeling or a memory that the viewer cannot always bring to mind.
While Laura Butler and Audrey Kyle have very different artistic styles and use different mediums, they share a vision in the sense of being preoccupied with a world beyond the present moment. Often, they are drawn to depicting scenes in the same places but produce their own unique interpretations. Audrey explores through a deep connection with the natural world, a strong sense of the mythical, mystical and folklore. Laura’s pursuit in her landscape paintings is to honour the spirit of the lives of people, and the traces their presence leaves on the landscape.
Laura Butler was born in Belfast but has always enjoyed close connections to the east Antrim area, particularly Islandmagee. She has lived in Glynn village for 23 years. Laura holds a BA Upper Second degree in Fine Art and has had her artwork exhibited as far away as Kansas, USA and more locally in Dublin and in various venues within County Antrim. Her artwork is held in private collections in Northern Ireland, England, USA, and Australia. Laura regularly participates in local art events, demonstrating her technique and style in oils and acrylics and is a member of some local art groups and collectives. She also undertakes an active role with the New Irish Art web platform by promoting other artists through sharing links to their online galleries across social media on a daily basis.
Audrey Kyle is a watercolour artist who paints from her studio, situated on the Gobbins Cliffs in Islandmagee, Co Antrim. She is a member of Economusee NI, C.A.O.S, and became a member of The Art Society of Ulster in 2014. Audrey exhibited for the first time at the R.U.A.'s 141st exhibition in the Ulster Museum. She regularly runs workshops from her cliff top studio. Influenced by the changing of the seasons and the effect which that has on the land, sky and routines, paintings are often colourful and capture landscapes, nature and country living.
The exhibition will be on display from Friday 3rd until Friday 31st October 2025, and includes Saturday opening on 11th October. Opening hours: Monday to Friday, 10.00am – 4.00pm.
