Navigating the wild west of the booming solar industry without being taken for a ride.• Thinking of buying solar for your house right now?
• Always curious if solar ACTUALLY works in Grand Rapids?
• Heard bad things or something is too good to be true about a company (or the industry)?
• Do you have solar but feel like things just aren’t quite right?
• Want to learn more about the realities of solar ?
Welcome to Kent County Environmental Action Team’s “Residential Solar 101: Navigating the Wild West of the booming solar industry” with Dan Terpstra.
Dan Terpstra is a Solar evangelist and experienced environmental realist who’s helped hundreds of people to understand how solar actually works and what’s going on with this booming technology. Is Dan going to say Solar doesn’t work or you shouldn’t get solar for your home? Of course not, but there’s a big asterisk that you really should understand about the industry before signing with XYZ Company.
We’ll talk about Dan’s experience with his 46 Solar panels at his Grand Rapids’ home, how a solar company hired him because of his knowledge of the utilities and history of this fascinating tech, and some of the most common questions and realities with urban residential solar.
• Do they work in winter?
• Does it matter what direction they face?
• Is there really a difference in panel quality or installation company?
• Can’t I just throw some panels on my roof and plug them in myself?
• Will they ever pay themselves off?
• Why are they so expensive?
• Does the utility buy my excess energy?
We’ll dive deep into these questions and help you to learn how to avoid the challenges some have encountered and help you to make an informed decision about solar for your home, and maybe even smell out the crooks going door to door to sell you the solar dream.
Come to Fountain Street Church on Wednesday April 1 at 6:30 PM for a one hour crash course with Dan Terpstra and the Kent County Environmental Action Team. Your politics won’t matter and everyone is welcome whether you’re Solar Curious, hoping to buy and install solar next week, or bought Solar three years ago.
This is part one of a 2 part series. You can attend one, both, or either but this seminar will cover many topics and technical detail.
