About this Event
This beginner’s session consists of a half-hour talk to introduce the basics of family and house history followed by optional half-hour bookable one-to-one sessions.
Your research journey doesn’t need to start with expensive subscriptions to family history websites or magazines. Many of the archives and guides you will need are available for free – you just need to know where to look.
The talk will cover archive maps, the UK Censuses, the 1939 Register, birth, death and marriage records, parish registers, newspaper articles, electoral registers, etc. It will also signpost you to other resources so that you can continue your journey on your own.
Although the talk is aimed at beginners, it might also provide a useful refresher for those who have taken a break from their research journey.
All participants will be provided with a booklet containing details of all the archives mentioned during the talk.

These library workshops are part of the ‘Hall Marks: the long shadows of Norfolk’s lost country houses’ project. It is made possible by a generous grant from the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
