A seventh-generation Texan, Dr. Buckingham graduated from the University of Texas at Austin, and medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. Serving as a school board member in 2014, Buckingham was elected to the Texas Senate in 2016 serving Senate District 24. In 2023, Dr. Buckingham made history as the first woman to be sworn into Texas’ oldest agency – the Texas General Land Office, becoming the 29th Land Commissioner of Texas.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
