Join us for the 2026 report launch of Still Steadfast: Punishment and Perseverance in Singapore's Movement Against Genocide
About this Event

Over the past 24 months in Singapore, we’ve witnessed a growing anti-imperialist struggle that has persisted despite crackdowns from many quarters. Many activists, community organisers, grassroots groups and creative efforts have bloomed in resistance to genocide, weapons and war industries, and colonial occupation. Those who have dared to speak up and take action have been met with intense repression in the form of surveillance, police investigations, sanctions from employers and schools, pressure from family and community, online hate comments, and more.

Some of this is public knowledge, but much has remained in the shadows. TJC breaks the silence on these attacks against civilians who are speaking up. Through 20 interviews and a focus group discussion with people at the heart of this movement, we also asked - despite all the backlash, what has kept you going?

If you’d like to hear their answers, join us at the launch of our report!

This presentation will start with a discussion of our findings, followed by reflections from the community and interventions from the floor.

⭐️Dinner is provided. Excited to see you there!

EMCEES

Dayana is a mother who strongly believes that nobody is too small to make a difference. She does not see herself as an activist but a human being trying to act responsibly during increasingly troubling times.

Chime is a student and member of Student Actions for Transformative jUstice (SATU). They believe that the status quo of censorship and repression in Singapore must change, and can be changed, starting from the smallest actions of resistance: imagining and believing in a more liveable future.

SPEAKERS

Laidong is a member of Workers Make Possible, a group committed to advancing workers' rights in Singapore. He believes that international working-class solidarity and anti-imperialism are crucial in the fight against oppression.

Sukesy Mattar is a mother and educator, still holding on to the hope that knowledge and sincere striving can turn us all into makers of change.

Rachel is a member of Students for Palestine, a coalition of students and alumni calling for Singapore’s divestment from Israel and other forms of imperial violence. She believes that struggles for liberation worldwide are deeply interconnected, and hopes to use education to move people towards envisioning a more just and equal world.
