About this Event
Mending can mean many things, and its definition offers layers of interpretation. An age-old tradition, an art form and a response to throw-away culture, mending is also a form of community care,
connection and healing.
Join artists Sam Fields and Josephine Burr of Hyde Park’s Brick Island Studio Collective for a free workshop to learn and practice the art of mending both textile (cloth) and ceramic objects.
Learn about the art of “visible mending” including the Japanese practices of boro(decorative stitching and patchwork) and kintsugi (repairing broken ceramics with gold or other colorful material to highlight the repair).
Bring an item in need of repair (a broken favorite cup, a moth-eaten sweater, etc.) or just come learn; we will provide materials for practicing techniques. Mending supplies and instruction will be provided.
