Though the Second World War was fought an ocean away, its imprint reached deep into Larimer County, reshaping daily life, the local economy, and the physical landscape in ways that still surround us today. Wartime demands brought new industries, altered transportation and infrastructure, and transformed quiet stretches of land into places of training, production, and preparation. Rationing, victory gardens, population shifts, and military service touched nearly every household, while federal investment left lasting marks on buildings, roads, and institutions that outlived the war itself.Meg Dunn and Sue Schneider will offer an armchair tour of sites across Larimer County that emerged because of World War II or were significantly shaped by it, revealing how a global conflict quietly but permanently influenced the county’s sense of place. By looking at familiar landscapes through a wartime lens, this program connects international events to local stories, showing how Larimer County became part of a much larger world at a pivotal moment in history.
