About this Event
Join artist Clarisse Tan in this participatory showcase where she takes you along her ‘journey to batik and Peranakan beading’, which began as a way to grieve her grandmother.
In a casual and intimate setting, participants are invited to take a look at her grandmother’s lawasan (vintage) batik, try their hands on beading, and share their personal stories of loss, memory, and grief.
Join us as we remember the textiles that we hold dear in memory of our loved ones.
About the speaker
Clarisse’s artistic practice explores how the process of making - especially in the context of heritage crafts - can be used as a platform for storytelling, healing and reconnecting with ancestral memory. Through the practice of self disclosure in combination with public viewing, she hopes to create safe spaces for mutual storytelling and collective healing.
