Learn about Star 80 at this month’s Special Collections Lecture Series, taking place on Wednesday, May 20 at 6 p.m. at the Main Library at Goodwood. Filmmaker Kyle Crane will present highlights from his documentary Just What I Needed and discuss its exploration of the culture that grew out of the iconic dance night held in the early 2000s at the Spanish Moon. A beloved Baton Rouge venue known for its lasting impact on the city’s music and nightlife scene, the Spanish Moon is central to the film’s reflection on a unique moment in local cultural history. The documentary also revisits the venue’s legacy on its 20th anniversary. During the program, Crane will share clips from the film and discuss the recently released 20th anniversary cut, which includes a new prologue featuring interviews with subjects from the original documentary.
