September 30 is the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, a time to honour survivors, remember the children who never returned home, and reflect on the history and lasting impact of residential schools. September is also the month when many children were taken from their families to begin the school year in residential institutions. This September, led by Kookum Karen, Grandmother-in-residence, students, staff and faculty are invited to reflect and remember by creating a small orange origami shirt. This activity will launch on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, as part of Indigenous Orientation and be ongoing until September 29 at a Burning Ceremony. You may:
· Write the name of a loved one or community
· Share a message or design that’s meaningful to you
These shirts will be displayed in Migizii Agamik as a collective act of remembrance.
