This time of year, we fondly remember the failed attempt to blow up the houses of parliament and.... perhaps, have secret aspirations of trying it again. Instead, we light up the night sky with sparks and bangs, warm our hands by the fire and eat marshmallows. The 2nd of November marks Day of the Dead, an ancient tradition of celebrating and remembering loved ones and the cycle of life.
We also observe Armistice or Remembrance Day on the 11th of November to honour those who gave their lives in the line of duty.
And all this, after Samhain, the turning of the year, when the veil between this world and the next is thin, as the nights get longer, a chill sets in, leaves turn an autumn hue and that familiar, damp, earthy smell of England in autumn hits your nostrils.
Yes, November is a time of Reflection and Remembrance.
If you have a poem on theme, do bring it, we’d love to hear it as we spend another Platform in the warm company of friends, old and new.
