About this Event

Religious trauma refers to the emotional and psychological distress that arises from harmful religious experiences or environments. This can include experiencing abuse, manipulation, or extreme guilt and shame within a religious context. Symptoms of religious trauma can manifest as anxiety, depression, loss of faith, identity confusion, and difficulty trusting others or oneself. In this workshop, Anna hopes to articulate what religious trauma is and how to heal from abusive and harmful religious experiences.

3 Objectives:

1) Assess for symptoms related to religious trauma

2) Differentiate harmful religious practices from healthy spirituality

3) Identify the impacts of religious trauma on human development

Information about the presenter: Anna Nokes (she/they), LCSW is a queer therapist at Soleil Psychotherapy who specializes in religious trauma, neurodivergence, and fat liberation/eating disorders. They utilize relational, somatic, and attachment based therapy to help their clients heal from complex trauma and build a life that feels worth living. She has extensive experience working with queer and trans folks coming out of high demand religions. As a religious trauma survivor herself, Anna utilizes her lived and professional experience to help clients build healthy spirituality and create new spiritual practices. Anna runs a fat liberation organization and regularly presents on neurodivergence, anti-fat bias, and religious trauma.

This is a virtual CEU workshop intended for therapists
This workshop will be recorded and sent to registered participants
Participants are encouraged to attend with screen on or off, based on your privacy preferences
2 CEUs (Psychologists, LMFT, LCPC, LSCW) are included in the cost.
Requirements CEU's are approved by the IDFPR for Illinois Licensed Therapists
If you are a therapist attending from out of state, please check with your local CEU provider for approval
