On May 3rd at The Bendigo Hotel, Collingwood, prepare to witness the intense sludge/noise/doom of RELIGIOUS OBSERVANCE, the expressive industrial/darkwave/black metal of IRREPARABLE, the post-punk/darkwave/synth of KAARST and the industrial doom of CHIEF WHIP.RELIGIOUS OBSERVANCE are a sludge/noise/doom band from Melbourne, Australia - named after an entry in the Dictionary of Sexual Slang (1993), where 'Religious Observance' was listed as a euphemism for sexual intercourse. Incestuously consisting of members from multiple Melbourne based bands and projects, Religious Observance create music, audio landscapes and live performance experiences channelling the primal duality of creation and destruction. Religious Observance draw lifeforce and inspiration from bands such as Eyehategod, Noothgrush, Grief, Whitehorse & Meth Drinker, as well as the insights and contortions of suffering. Since forming in 2015, Religious Observance have put out: - 4 full length albums - - 3 EPs 2 splits.
IRREPARABLE formed in 2019, combining elements of industrial music, black metal and darkwave. Thematically the band explore themes of loss, cyclical suffering and emptiness as brought to the fore on their sophomore EP “Complete Emptiness” (released May 2023 by the band on CD, and by the Italian label These Hands Melt on vinyl).
Their live performances have been referred to as a “chaotic fever dream” …”with intense moments of vulnerability and introspection”. - Ziggy Thunders from Hook Riff and Banger, Sept 2024.
The band recently recorded a new full length album entitled “The Fate Of All Life” which is expected to be released later in the year and they will be debuting a couple of new tracks at this show.
KAARST has been evolving their dark electronic sound since their 2022 debut 7" "Prayers." Building on a foundation of post-punk, EBM, and synth-wave, the duo of Sam Haven & Scott Curtis (also of the "Crucible" label) creates a unique and captivating atmosphere. Their live performances, sharpened through sharing stages with genre leaders like Perturbator, HEALTH, Striborg, and YLVA, are a force to be reckoned with. From the doom-laden "Underneath The Blood Moon" to the recently released, diverse 2-track "Soft Skin / Rains," KAARST's music explores the spaces between heavy industrial sounds and soaring post-punk anthems. Their latest single, "The Blinding Black," delivers a potent dose of energetic post-punk, blending driving rhythms, soaring vocals, and atmospheric synths into a captivating whole and a new EP coming very soon.
The intersection between the mythology of the past and the horror of the future, CHIEF WHIP is an industrial doom project from Australia. Starting as a studio endeavour in 2020 and after lying low for a short period of time; Chief Whip finally returns with an expanded lineup and new material to follow on from ‘Aurora Apparatus’.
