In this workshop, we will explore negotiation as an ongoing, collaborative practice within intentional and non-monogamous relationships. Rather than framing negotiation as conflict or compromise, we will approach it as a skill for co-creating solutions that honor everyone’s needs, capacities, and values. We will begin by building a shared understanding of what effective, ethical negotiation looks like in relationships and how to shift from positional bargaining (“my way vs. your way”) toward principled negotiation (values-based collaboration).Attendees will learn practical frameworks for negotiating relationship agreements, distinguishing between needs, wants, and preferences, and articulating desires with clarity and care. We will explore how to practice saying and receiving “no” without shame, coercion, or collapse, and how consent, autonomy, and emotional safety are foundational to sustainable agreements. We will also review the benefits of revisiting and renegotiating agreements over time, recognizing that relationships, people, and circumstances naturally change.
The workshop will also address real-world negotiations that often carry additional emotional and logistical complexity, including co-habitation, co-parenting, caregiving, and shared resources. Attendees will examine how power, dependency, timing, and capacity can shape negotiations, and how to navigate change with transparency and compassion rather than avoidance or resentment.
By the end of the workshop, attendees will leave with concrete tools for negotiating agreements, navigating shifting needs, and responding to change with flexibility and intention. These skills are designed to support relationships that are resilient, consensual, and aligned with the evolving realities of the people within them.
Doors open at 6:30pm. Workshop starts at 7pm.
The Relationship Foundations Series is designed to provide competency in core relationship skills that are necessary to maintain successful meaningful relationships. By identifying the most prominent friction points in the practice of transitioning and practicing non-monogamy, the series seeks to provide attendees with the knowledge and practical skills to avoid roadblocks, move through discomfort, and build thriving relationships.
