In this workshop, we will explore conflict as an inevitable (and potentially connective) part of intentional and non-monogamous relationships. We will begin by building a shared understanding of healthy conflict resolution, drawing from Nonviolent Communication (NVC) and restorative justice frameworks to support conversations that prioritize accountability, understanding, and repair rather than blame or punishment.Attendees will learn how to identify the needs, emotions, and values underneath conflict, and how to express impact and requests with clarity and care. We will examine restorative approaches to harm, including how to acknowledge ruptures, take responsibility, and move toward repair in ways that support trust and relational integrity. Particular attention will be given to navigating conflict when power differences, emotional activation, or repeated patterns are present.
A central focus of this workshop will be the ethical use of communication and conflict-resolution tools. Attendees will explore how frameworks like NVC, boundaries, or “using the right language” can be misapplied or weaponized to avoid accountability, shut down dialogue, or control others. We will discuss how to recognize these patterns, both in ourselves and in our relationships, and how to return to values of consent, compassion, and mutual respect.
By the end of the workshop, attendees will leave with practical tools for engaging conflict with greater skill and integrity, repairing harm when it occurs, and using communication frameworks as supports for connection rather than instruments of power. These skills are designed to help relationships weather conflict with honesty, care, and a shared commitment to growth.
Doors open at 6:30pm. Workshop starts at 7pm.
The Relationship Foundations Series is designed to provide competency in core relationship skills that are necessary to maintain successful meaningful relationships. By identifying the most prominent friction points in the practice of transitioning and practicing non-monogamy, the series seeks to provide attendees with the knowledge and practical skills to avoid roadblocks, move through discomfort, and build thriving relationships.
