About this Event
Some of the most pronounced points of personal suffering can arise in the domain of our interpersonal relationships.
- We may have had experiences in the past that truncate our ability to be authentic with others in the present.
- We may find it difficult to express our feelings or stay present when others are experiencing challenging emotions.
- Perhaps we have difficulty receiving feedback or criticism from others.
Relational mindfulness takes our practice into the interpersonal realm and asks the question, what arises when we meet moments of interpersonal interaction with curiosity, kindness, and openness?
Mindfulness helps to bring awareness and choice into our communication so we can begin to break away from old habits that undermine understanding.
Training our attention to notice our habits can free us to cultivate a style of relating that acknowledges our experience while allowing space for others to express themselves.
In these four free community sessions, we'll explore blending mindfulness-based meditation with Nonviolent Communication (NVC) to provide participants an opportunity to explore compassionate communication.
Nonviolent Communication (NVC) is a mindfulness practice that directs attention to elements of our shared life experience that contribute to compassionate giving and receiving in interpersonal communication.
Through the practice of NVC, we can learn to clarify what we are observing, what emotions we are feeling, what values we want to live by, and what we want to ask of ourselves and others. We will no longer need to use the language of blame, judgment, or domination. We can experience the deep pleasure of contributing to each others' well-being. — James Prieto
