About this Event

Relational Herbalism - A Reclamation of Plant Centred Practice:

Join Samara and Rebecca for a journey back to the heart of Herbalism, treading the path home to an alive, reciprocal, embodied relationship with our medicine. Many practitioners of this ancient art form speak of a palpable sense of something missing from their craft.

Call it energetics, the soul, the roots of the tradition - many of us are perpetually searching for that missing thing, the map to the spaces in-between the research papers and monographs, often eventually turning to other traditional medicine systems to find it.

One of the tragic side effects of modernising clinical herbal practice is that we have forgotten how rich our own Western tradition is, and, perhaps most importantly, that it is actually the living plants themselves that hold the keys to the deeper understanding and connection we are seeking. Patiently waiting for us to remember them, they are the teachers we having been longing for and seeking all along.

Together Samara and Rebecca will talk about what they have personally found to be these ‘missing’ aspects of their modern practices - part energetic languages, part balancing out the mind with heart, soul and psyche, part getting our hands dirty in the soil. Perhaps most importantly though, came the remembering that as Herbalist’s we were always meant to be in relationship and allyship with the plants and the earth, not disconnected dispensers and consumer’s of them, knowing them only through the glass of the brown bottles in our dispensary.

We’ll also step into a guided space of heart coherence, ready to connect deeply with one of two live plant ally’s, inviting you down the wild garden path that allows for truly holistic, heart-led, embodied Herbal Medicine practice. Lastly, we will be sharing with you a selection of different homemade and mindfully sourced medicines from our two selected plants to try, compare and sit with, as a way of remembering how versatile our toolbox really is, and reawakening the medicine makers in all of us.

Rebecca is a Naturopath, Astrologer, and Green Witch practicing Folk Herbalism in an earth-centered and heart-led way. Rebecca has spent much of her 10+ years of practice re-enchanting her offerings, and moving into animistic, relational models that centre reciprocity and collaborative care with the more-than-human world, be that the moon, the ancestors, the plants or the winds. Rebecca is also a Kinesiologist, a Tarot reader and teacher, has been holding Women’s Circles since 2018, is a maker of enchanted herbal medicines as Witch of the Little Hills, and is co-creatrix of southern-hemisphere oriented Astrology podcast ‘The Sentient Sky’.

Samara is a hairdresser, herbalist, and artist with With a deep reverence and interest for the stories that shape both plants and people. Slow craft is a big part of Samaras life, being both a stabiliser and a portal for expansion, she believes losing touch with the art of making could be at the heart of many mental and emotional health issues.Through Samaras inner city garden she has found an unexpected relationship with plants, one that does not fit plans, books or scientific papers, herbs talk, to each other and to us. Samaras garden opened her ears to be able to hear them
