About this Event
This workshop invites participants to rethink everyday technologies as a way to unveil the values that underpin their making, to uncover the hidden narratives within our digital systems, and to question the ways in which digital technologies are reshaping our everyday lives.
After unpacking the social, economic, and ecological impact of our ubiquitous technologies, participants will be invited to re-imagine how our current technologies might function if they were designed from radically different value sets and narratives than the ones we design with today.
This free event is open to the entire Capilano University community, including those who do not work or study on campus but wish to engage with these issues. Registration is required.
Light snacks will be served. Masks will be provided and are encouraged while not eating.
The event will formally end at 12:50 to allow students and faculty attending 1:00 classes time to move to their next classroom, but we will be in the space for an additional hour and invite anyone who can stay past 12:50 to continue working on the project.
Access Notes
The workshop will take place in LB119, which is in the Library building. The room is close to two street-level entrances and requires no stairs to access, but the sidewalks from the parking lots are at an incline. The West entrance (off Greg Lee Way) is very close to the bus loop on Purcell Way, and the path between the bus stop and the library entrance is flat.
Entrances to the Library building have switch- and handwave-operated automatic doors. If you encounter any issues entering the building on the day of the event, please call the Library Services Desk at 604-984-4944 for assistance.
Please contact [email protected] to ask any questions or to share your access needs for the event.
