Reimagining the Divine Feminine at Equinox: Coatlicue, Jung, Myth & Ritual Art

A Lecture in the Library with Sandra del Castillo

Join us for an evening of enchantment dedicated to Coatlicue, the Aztec Mother goddess, whose name means "Skirt of Serpents." We will gather in the timeless PRS library, where a wooden sculpture of Coatlicue happily resides at the entrance. During this presentation, the rich symbolism and myth of the Mesoamerican Mother Goddess will be explored through a Jungian mirror. Then through ritual art we will invoke her to reawaken the divine feminine, both within and without, to embrace her styles and qualities of consciousness–in search of balance and order in the chaos. In these perilous and uncertain times, we begin the work of reimagining the Garden bequeathed us, and of learning what it might mean to tend the Mother Earth– body and soul.Another world is possible. Hope is radical. Imagination is gold!

Sandra del Castillo is a Jungian scholar, teacher, mentor, ritual artist, mythologist, storyteller, dream guide, and the creator and host of “Blue Medicine Journal: A Jungian Podcast,” a podcast. She believes another world is possible and views this moment in human history as a kairos, as Jung saw it, that is an opportune moment for a change of worldview. So much is at stake and Jung stated that so much depends on the psychological constitution of the modern human.
Sandra earned her BA in English literature from UC Berkeley, and her Master’s degree and PhD in Jungian and Archetypal Depth Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute, where she teaches a course on Jung and Mesoamerica.
A Contributing Scholar at the Philosophical Research Society, she presents her ongoing research in Mesoamerican studies, casting a Jungian lens on these ancient indigenous civilizations, their philosophy, mythology, poetry, cosmovision, creation myths, and their archetypal wisdom and significance today. Her courses, lectures, and ritual art workshops embrace different themes, including the Mexican Day of the Dead. Her online course at PRS, “Jung, Myth and the Archetypal Imagination,” introduces CG Jung and applies Jungian concepts to explore themes running through Homer’s The Odyssey: quest as an archetypal journey to wholeness, rites of passage, a return to the goddess, democracy as an archetypal potential, and the kairos. Sandra facilitates new moon and full moon circles, dream circles, equinox & solstice rituals, women & rites of passage, and death as a rite of passage. Having studied curanderismo in Mexico, she also performs limpias, the traditional Mexican indigenous purification rituals for individuals, homes, and businesses.
