About this Event
Programme
Our early career network meetings aim to create space for early career researchers of 'race' and ethnicity to share experiences and insights, and to create connections.
In this meeting we will host an interactive workshop that recognises the emotional labour involved in researching racial injustice, particularly in the current social and political climate, and offers a space to pause, reflect, and reconnect with positive possibilities.
In small groups participants will discuss their research topics and identify a central story or narrative from their work that they want to disrupt. They will identify an imagined ‘positive future’ where their research problem no longer exists. They will explore what changed socially to enable this positive future to emerge, who led the transformation, what institutions disappeared or transformed, and what was rebuilt in their place. Using creative mediums such as collage, LEGO, mind-mapping / sketching, or AI image generation, each participant will document the change that took place accompanied by a future news headline, or a scene from everyday life that sums up their re-imagined positive future.
The workshop ends with a networking lunch.
You may want to stay with us for another event from 3-5pm (more details to follow) and/or for Dan Hicks: Monuments Will Fall 6-8pm. Please book tickets for these events separately if you would like to attend.
Cancellations
If you register and then find out that you cannot come, please, please, please cancel your place as early as possible (it helps if you can also email us if it's short notice before the event). Like most event organisers we often find that a lot of people register and don't attend. We understand that sometimes this can't be helped. But cancelling your place in good time often means we can let somebody else attend in your place.
Catering
All food will be vegetarian or vegan. If you have other dietary requirements please let us know when you register. We might not be able to accommodate these after we finalise the catering order - this is usually 10 working days before the event.
We will encourage all attendees to help themselves to any food left after lunch. Feel free to bring a tupperware!
Expenses
If needed, we can reimburse UK travel expenses (standard class public transport)and overnight accommodation (up to £100) to allow you to attend.
Expenses will be reimbursed after the event. We will send you a claim form to fill and you will need to keep all tickets and receipts.
