Reimagine: A Poetry Workshop with InsideOut Literary Arts
Join InsideOut Literary Arts for a poetry workshop inspired by the works in the Reimagine African American Art exhibit. Participants will visit and learn about the world-class collection of African American Art, draft their own poetry in response to its themes, and draw connections between poetry and art from the Harlem Renaissance through the Black Arts Movement. This workshop will be facilitated by Mahogany Jones. Open to teens and adults. The workshop will begin in the Holley Room located near the John R entrance.
Mahogany Jones is a Grammy-recognized Hip-Hop Soul artist, Kresge Arts Fellow, TEDx speaker, and internationally recognized cultural ambassador. A four-time BET Freestyle Friday champion, she has toured in 18+ countries and shared stages with The Roots, Jill Scott, Common, and Rapsody. With a robust body of work, she has released 5 albums and 4 mixtapes as well as a collection of poetry, Words My Father Gave Me. An award-winning educator, she designs transformative arts and personal development programs that invite audiences into powerful experiences of freedom and authentic expression.
