Our main objective at the Homeschool Group is to allow all Homeschool Students to learn public speaking, research, and presentation skills. We do this in 2 ways:All students are allowed to “Show and Tell” anything of their choice. Each student will introduce themselves and tell the group about their particular object.
Elementary and Middle School students will do a presentation based on the Theme for the year. Families are responsible for ensuring the research is completed and presented to the group in an age-appropriate and skill-appropriate way. You can use a storyboard, slide presentation, dramatic presentation, etc. (**NOTE: If you participated in the 2023-24 group, we veered from this practice unintentionally, but we are returning to this format for the 2024-25 school year.)
We have also noticed in previous years that many families wish for more interactive time between the students. Therefore, this year we are extending Homeschool Group by 30 minutes to have more time for the kids to be social. Part of this learning process is not just learning to be a good presenter, but a good audience member. We need to teach our kids how to sit quietly and respectfully give their attention to someone speaking in the front of the room. We are hoping the extended time for socializing will help the children focus and not talk as much during presentations since they know they will have time to talk afterward. (**NOTE: While preschool-aged children are allowed to attend Homeschool Group, many may find it difficult to sit quietly and listen while others are speaking.)
