Duration: 3 hours
Difficulty: Easy/Moderate
The Walk
We’ll set off from Skipton High Street, quickly leaving the bustle of town as a ginnel leads us onto the canal. The path is flat and easy here, perfect for warming up while taking in the colourful boats and lively waterside atmosphere.
From the canal, the route climbs steadily along a farm track before crossing grassy fields and a handful of stone stiles. As we gain height, the views open up across the valley, with Skipton Moor offering a real sense of peace and wide open space. At the top, we’ll pause to enjoy spectacular views back over the town and its striking castle, with the option to wander a little further across the moorland ridge.
The walk then descends through shady woodland on steeper, uneven paths, where good footwear is needed for grip. We finish with an easy stroll along pavement back into town – a satisfying loop that combines canal, countryside and moorland in one walk.
