You're invited to join us to celebrate Refugee Week at our Perth launch event on Monday 21 June 2021 at Wesley Uniting Church, corner of William & Hay Streets, Perth.
This is a free, collaborative event by local organisations committed to creating welcoming communities, and celebrating the broad diversity and rich contributions to our state of people from refugee backgrounds.
The formal proceedings will begin at 12.30pm, and you are invited to arrive by 12noon to purchase lunch from the CARAD Fare Go Food Truck, a social enterprise staffed by refugees and asylum seekers, and engage with the various stalls which will be positioned around the Wesley corner.

Guest speakers include:
Hon Ayor Makur Chuot MLC– The first WA state MP of African ancestry, Ayor came to Australia as a South Sudanese refugee in 2005 after ten years in the Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya.
Salem Askari – An Hazara man who came to Australia after fleeing persecution in Afghanistan, Salem is currently a researcher with the Curtin Centre for Human Rights Education while living on a five-year temporary protection visa.
Joanna Josephs – General Manager of the Centre for Asylum Seekers, Refugees and Detainees (CARAD). CARAD provides essential case management, emergency relief and volunteer support for people from refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds in Perth.
