Dr Paris Buttfield-Addison is the co-founder of independent game development studio Secret Lab, and tools studio Yarn Spinner. For both, he serves as producer, and helps to maintain the popular open source interactive dialogue system, Yarn Spinner. Secret Lab is best known for working on Night in the Woods, the BAFTA- and IGF-winning adventure game (powered by Yarn Spinner). Yarn Spinner powers thousands of games built around the world, including DREDGE, Venba, A Short Hike, Little Kitty Big City, Rift of the Necrodancer, NORCO, Demonschool, Luma Island, and Lost in Random. Paris is currently working on Screen Tasmania-funded I Feel Fine (written by Ryan North), and Screen Tasmanian- and Screen Australia-funded Leonardo's Moon Ship (conceived by creator of Pixar's Ratatouille, Jim Capobianco). Paris has written more than 20 best-selling technical books on game development, machine learning, mobile apps, and rocket science for O'Reilly Media, and has a PhD in computer science.Come along to Lumina in North Hobart, or join us via zoom online, on Wednesday 26 Nov to hear from the inspiring Paris Buttfield-Addison.
