Sleep in Heavenly Peace:Building Beds in Richmond County for Children in Need
Sleep in Heavenly Peace is a non-profit organization which had its’ start in a garage 14 years ago. A project that started with the build of one bed for a single family developed into something a lot bigger.
At Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP), we believe our service is about much more than constructing beds for kids in need. Our mission of “NO KID SLEEPS ON THE FLOOR IN OUR TOWN” extends to building communities, transforming lives, and creating opportunities for personal growth and learning. There are currently over 400 chapters in the US.
We have constructed close to 100 beds in Richmond County in less than a year, and with the community’s support, we plan to build many more. There is a dire need in our area for children in need of a bed.

Richmond County has partnered with the NC-Sandhills Chapter in which Tom Bourne is president. He brings the tools we need to cut, sand, drill, and prep the wood for each build. Our Richmond County core team participates at each build. It takes $250
to be raised per bed for a 20-bed build, ($5000 total) which covers the wood for a twin size bed, the hardware, a new twin mattress, pillow, and twin-size bed-in-a-bag (including twin comforter and sheet set). After the beds are built, they are delivered to homes in need, and the
child will be ready to sleep in it that night.
There is a process SHP requires applicants to go through for the children’s guardians to apply and be approved for a bed. This allows those who truly need a bed to receive one.
