Join us for our 30th annual Blanket Drive and Mini-Powwow at the Simi Valley Public Library. We have reserve the Community Room as well as the grass area adjacent to the Senior's Center so this event will take place rain or shine. If it isn't raining or very windy, we will be outside on the grass. The goal of this event is to gather new, warm blankets to send to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota, and we collect monetary donations to cover the cost of shipping. The blankets we receive will be sent to the White Plume family for distribution as gifts, not charity, radiating outward from the region of Manderson. We have worked with Alex White Plume in this endeavor for roughly twenty years. This is our oldest and most continuous event.
All powwow singers, dancers and drums are welcome. Flute players, hoop dancers, hand drum singers, storytellers...please join us. This is an all volunteer, 100% love and kindness gathering.
This little powwow is only four hours long, and is not designed to be a vendor event. If you have previously been a crafts vendor you are welcome to return, particularly if you or your family are also supporting the event with your dance or music. If we are inside the Community Room, space will be limited.
