About this Event
We are delighted to welcome David John Morris to The Soho Poly for a solo Red River Dialect Show - our first show of IVW 2026. Basic Country Mustard, the recently released sixth Red River Dialect album, picks up where 2019’s Abundance Welcoming Ghosts left off; lyric-focussed folk-rock which is neither transatlantic nor straining for trad-British authenticity. The same lineup returns for Basic Country Mustard, which became an idea for an album title in 2020; a recipe was found, a joke about making a mustard themed English country album was made. The band formed in 2008 in Cornwall around Cornish songwriter David John Morris, but following a decade or more living in London (with other members scattered further) the Celtic claims have hollowed out some; just another Basic Country boy singing in the big smoke.
This solo show will showcase tracks off Basic Country Mustard as well as diving deeper into David's impressive back catalogue. Praise for the album includes;
"The songs are, as always, beautifully realized... his most successful songs focus not on nature's myriad wonders, but on what makes us human." Album of the Day, Bandcamp"Folk Rock alchemy... this is music to soften a rigid heart" 9/10 Uncut"First LP in six years from the undervalued Cornish folk-rockers... conjures a sense of a Rolling Thunder Review raised on sea shanties" 4/5 Mojo
