Join the Surry County Office of Substance Abuse Recovery (SCOSAR) for a powerful day of building community and learning about storytelling in the context of substance use and recovery! We’ll spend the day exploring the dynamics of strength-based storytelling for a wide variety of audiences and how to reduce stigma through carefully crafted, intentional sharing of personal experience. Participants will leave equipped to be more empowered in their storytelling and with several key storytelling elements in hand that promote belonging and inspire change in those they serve.

By the end of the session participants will be able to:

  • Identify three different types of audiences and what type of stories may be appropriate
  • Recognize three potentially harmful characteristics of stories about substance use
  • Apply three tools for more inclusive stories that reduce substance-use-related stigma
