About this Event
There was a time when food preservation was common knowledge. When kitchens carried the scent of simmering fruit, shelves were lined with jars, and recipes were passed hand to hand instead of searched for online.
This workshop is an invitation to reconnect with those skills.
Join us at Yisrael Farms for a beginner-friendly, hands-on canning workshop focused on blueberry jam and safe water bath preservation methods. Together, we’ll explore the foundations of home food preservation in a warm, welcoming environment rooted in community, nourishment, and practical ancestral knowledge. This workshop takes place outdoors on our urban farm.
Participants will learn:
• Water bath canning basics
• High-acid food safety
• Jar preparation and sealing
• Jam-making techniques
• Processing and storage methods
• Beginner food preservation confidence
During the workshop, participants will work in small groups to prepare and process blueberry jam.
Each participant will leave with:
• One jar of homemade jam
• Printed recipes and preservation guides
• Hands-on experience
• The confidence to continue preserving food at home
This class is ideal for:
• beginners
• homesteaders
• gardeners
• food lovers
• families
• anyone interested in reclaiming practical kitchen skills
