About this Event
This year, MICA’s 32nd Annual Benefit Fashion Show will be concurrent with the college’s bicentennial. As we reflect on the artistic legacy of this institution, we are asking our designers to investigate and expand on this year’s theme, Reclaim. To reclaim is ‘to return to or recover something that was lost or taken’. Our show means to inspire appreciation and action to preserve historic cultural art practices. What can we salvage from the past? How can we ensure these histories move forward with us?
Through research, craft, materiality & performance, our 10 collections by MICA students explore what it means to acknowledge our roots as artists and take them into the future.
The 32nd Annual Benefit Fashion Show will be run both April 17th & 18th starting at 7:00 PM, with doors opening at 6:30. The show on the 18th will be preceded by a Community Marketplace featuring local, alum, and student vendors, and both shows will feature an exhibition outside the Falvey auditorium with artwork from the Baltimore Design School.
All proceeds from MICA's Annual Benefit Fashion Show support the Dr. Frankie Martin Fund. Dr. Frankie Martin founded the Annual Benefit Fashion Show, in partnership with the Black Student Union, to showcase and highlight the beauty of diverse backgrounds and experiences. Since then she has retired from the college and received MICA’s highest honor, the Medal of Honor.
When you purchase a ticket to the fashion show you are directly contributing to the Dr. Frankie Martin Grant, which provides grant funds for students to purchase needed supplies and resources to support their studio proactice, and work on and off the campus with the Baltimore art community.
In honor of Dr. Frankie Martin's legacy at MICA and in celebration of MICA's Bicentennial year, we have a variety of sponsorship packages which can be accessed here: https://www.givecampus.com/s/pbpidj.
