About this Event

What does it really take to write a cookbook? Behind every recipe is a story—of culture, memory, and the way people gather around a table. In this lively workshop, award-winning cookbook author Andrea Lawson Gray shares valuable insight to turn food, memory, and culture into a book people want to cook from. Explore how cookbook ideas take shape, how recipes are translated for readers, and how writers weave personal storytelling into practical instruction. Whether you dream of writing a cookbook, are curious about food writing, or want to learn how food and storytelling come together on the page, this session offers a behind-the-scenes look at one of publishing’s most beloved genres. Come hungry for stories, and bring all of your questions.

Andréa Lawson Gray is a cookbook writer and culinary anthropologist whose books and collaborations sit at the intersection of culture, research, and the home kitchen. A James Beard Award and IACP recipient, her culinary background in both restaurants and branding informs her historically grounded food narratives while also speaking directly to contemporary audiences. She divides her time between San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York where she continues to research, write,

and collaborate on culinary projects.
