Enniscorthy Library would like to invite you to a talk 'Rebel Priests or Social Clerics? An exploration of the role of Catholic clerics in Tenant Rights during the Nineteenth Century highlighting Frs Thomas Furlong, Killegney, Thomas Staples, Poulpeasty and Canon Thomas Doyle, Ramsgrange' with John Cooney in collaboration with Ui Cinsealaigh Historical Society.
John Cooney is a historian and writer. Studied at NUI Maynooth. BA hons in Local Studies, MA hons in Irish History. Currently a PhD student at NUI Maynooth researching the Catholic Church and the Land War 1850-1900. Main area of historical research is 19th century Ireland, with particular emphasis on the Land Question, Landed Estates and the Catholic Church. Previous research topics: The effects of the Great Famine in the Barony of Bantry Wexford and the Role of Catholic Clerics in Tenant Rights in Wexford between 1830 and 1890. Co founder of the social media history channel 'What Happened Here? which documents and presents video content on historical events which happened in local areas.
