About this Event
Welcome to RBC Oxford's February event, where we'll be diving into the theme Africa, through Dipo Faloyin's .
More about "Africa is not a Country"
Witty, subversive, and sharply argued, this book dismantles simplistic narratives about Africa and replaces them with vivid portraits of cities, youth movements, cultures, and histories that challenge West-centric assumptions. Faloyin’s voice is both journalistic and conversational — equally at ease satirising colonial legacies and celebrating the joys of pan-African identity.
Why we chose it: "So much of the history of Africa has been written by people who were not only not from the continent, but actively despised it... It is time to tell the story of a continent that has been long misunderstood."
Delicious drinks are included, as well as engaging storytelling and space for conversations and sharing.

Your host for the evening: Andie
Originally from Bilbao, Spain, Andie works in public relations for businesses in the renewable energy sector. In her free time, she's a voracious reader, book blogger and amateur runner. Having spent part of her 20s living in Baku and Moscow has made her drawn to Soviet history and she can't resist a good spy biography.
Andie believes that books are the answer to every question and there is no better tool to help us understand how the world and people work. She's leading RBC Oxford hoping to continue spreading the love for knowledge through a supportive and fun community that comes together for engaging conversations, growing a little with each book and discussion.
Andie's non-fiction recommendations:
1. Agent Sonya by Ben MacIntyre
2. Shoe Dog by Phil Knight
3. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Manson
